Fraud scam: request to pay fines for traffic violations

Flensburg, 10.02.2025.

E-mails are currently circulating suggesting that the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) is sending fine notices for traffic violations. This is a scam. Important to know: the KBA does not send out fine notices for traffic violations, it is not responsible for punishing traffic violations.

Sample of a false fine notice:

Every fine procedure would also be preceded by a hearing in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act (VwVfG) by the competent authorities (road traffic authorities, etc.), which gives those involved in a procedure the opportunity to comment on the incident in question. The KBA would like to point out that these e-mails in circulation do not originate from the KBA or any other official body.

Under no circumstances should payments be made.
