FabriCar repair center: CO₂-neutral into the future
FabriCar consistently relies on renewable energies
FabriCar in Bad Aibling is the first body and paint store to consistently rely on renewable energies and operate in a CO₂-neutral manner. In addition to photovoltaics, geothermal energy is also used to supply energy. This was made possible by a modern extension that provides a new home for the existing paint shop.
Christian Kucz, owner of FabriCar, used the expansion to implement a forward-looking sustainability strategy. The requirements were high: no more fossil fuels, heat and electricity from in-house production for the new paint shop and the existing building, combined with state-of-the-art, energy-saving paint shop technology.
The contract for the implementation was awarded to the German plant manufacturer Sehon, known for its environmentally friendly high-tech painting systems. Tiemo Sehon emphasizes that FabriCar is using geothermal energy to power the building and the paint shops for the first time. Geothermal energy refers to the thermal energy stored in the earth’s crust, which can be used for heating, cooling and power generation.
At FabriCar, ambient heat from the ground is used via heat pumps. In order to extract heat from the groundwater and return the cooled water, a well system with two extraction wells and two absorption wells was installed. In Germany, wells up to a depth of 100 meters must be approved by the lower water authority. The use of geothermal energy is subsidized by the state and FabriCar makes optimum use of these subsidy programs.
The company’s own photovoltaic system and geothermal energy are its main energy suppliers. An intelligent energy management system controls all processes automatically and ensures perfect interaction between energy generation, storage and consumption. Surplus energy is fed into the grid and green electricity from renewable sources is used when required. FabriCar produces more energy than it consumes throughout the year and does not use fossil fuels at all.
Sehon’s painting systems are integrated into the heat and energy concept. The SE-Professional Futura combi spray booth with integrated drying function requires over 80% less energy than comparable booths. This booth has a year-round heat recovery system with a recovery rate of approx. 70 %. Sehon also supplied several workstations and a central supply terminal to increase efficiency.
“FabriCar’s new paint center with photovoltaics and geothermal energy is a milestone for modern and sustainable paint stores,” sums up Tiemo Sehon. “We are proud to be able to make an important contribution to the success of the new building with our expertise and technology.”
With its innovative approach, FabriCar is setting standards in the industry and demonstrating how sustainable operation can be achieved through the use of high-tech and renewable energies.
