CLEANFLEX: New hygiene standard when traveling
Interview with Andreas König, Head of Project and Portfolio Management at Knaus Tabbert AG, about the new CLEANFLEX toilet.
Mr. König, thank you for taking the time to talk to us about the new CLEANFLEX toilet.
Can you give us an overview of this innovation?
Andreas König: With pleasure.
The CLEANFLEX toilet is an innovation in the caravanning industry that we are offering for model year 2025.
Unlike conventional toilet solutions, it requires neither water nor chemicals.
And thanks to its foil technology, it is particularly hygienic and odor-proof.
Handling is child’s play, making it an ideal solution for motorhomes, caravans and camper vans.
Construction of the Cleanfix toilet from Knaus Tabbert.
What makes CLEANFLEX stand out?
Andreas König: CLEANFLEX relies on a film technology that makes the use of fresh water and toxic chemicals for cleaning and odour neutralization superfluous.
This saves valuable water resources, in contrast to the process used in conventional liquid toilets.
What’s more, wastewater treatment plants are also spared and groundwater is protected, as drug residues such as penicillin or antibiotics are also returned to our ecosystem when the waste tank is emptied.
With the CLEANFLEX, on the other hand, everything is quickly, safely and hygienically sealed in bags at the touch of a button.
The toilet brush can stay at home, because with every use, a completely new toilet interior with new foil is ready.
The germ-free and odorless bags are then simply disposed of with the residual waste and incinerated without leaving any residue.
When recycled in the waste incineration process, they serve as an energy source.
This innovative technology reduces the carbon footprint of campers.
Let’s move on to the subject of comfort.
How does CLEANFLEX contribute to improvement in this area?
Andreas König: Convenience is a key aspect of our development.
The CLEANFLEX toilet can be positioned anywhere, as it only requires a 12-volt power connection to recharge the battery.
This gives us new opportunities to flexibly design floor plans and develop new bathroom layouts – and, above all, much more space for our customers.
When the toilet is not needed, for example, it can simply be pushed away.
In addition, compared to conventional toilet solutions, CLEANFLEX eliminates the tedious and unpleasant task of emptying the heavy cassette.
In the past, campers had to transport the full waste tank to the disposal point and tip the contents into a container that was already being used by many other campers.
This is very unhygienic and unpleasant.
CLEANFLEX’s easy handling and low cleaning effort also contribute to the significantly improved comfort experience.
Can you tell us something about the installation and maintenance of the CLEANFLEX toilet?
Andreas König: CLEANFLEX does not require any water connections or external ventilation systems, which makes it extremely easy to install.
All that is required is a 12-volt connection, for which the chemical toilet can still be used.
It is therefore also ideal for retrofitting in existing vehicles.
The maintenance effort is minimal, the film technology makes laborious cleaning processes superfluous.
And the rechargeable battery ensures that the toilet functions independently of external power sources.
In other words: being self-sufficient is no problem at all with the CLEANFLEX, as it does not draw on the vehicle or body battery and is always available.
What feedback have you received so far from your customers about the new toilet solution?
Andreas König: The feedback is extremely positive!
Our customers particularly appreciate the advantages in terms of hygiene and handling.
Many campers are enthusiastic about the flexibility and the additional space gained.
The sustainable concept and the savings in water consumption as well as the absence of chemicals are also very well received.
We are delighted that we are obviously meeting the needs of the camping community with CLEANFLEX.
For us, this is the best confirmation of our development work.
Mr. König, thank you very much for the interview and the interesting insights!
Andreas König: It was a pleasure.
