Automechanika 2024

Summit meeting of innovation drivers in Frankfurt and prospects for the mobility turnaround

Automechanika Frankfurt 2024 has once again consolidated its position as the leading international trade fair for the automotive industry. 4,200 exhibitors from 80 countries presented their new products and innovative solutions for dealers, workshops and industry. On 320,000 square meters, 26 hall levels, trade visitors from 172 countries were able to discover pioneering technologies and, in some cases, try them out live on the outdoor area. The trends this year were: Electrification, vehicle connectivity, driver assistance systems and digitalization.

The extended supporting program for the trade fair was well received by the public: 108,000 visitors from 172 countries took advantage of the offer to bring themselves up to date. “In times of digital transformation, the industry once again demonstrated incredible innovative strength and provided countless highlights over the five days of the trade fair,” said Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt. “Together with our exhibitors, we brought the right players onto the stages and into the exhibition halls to discuss key topics such as alternative drives, sustainability and the use of AI and robotics in the automotive aftermarket. We are delighted with the increased demand from both German and international visitors.”

Great interest in focus topics

Trends and developments in various sectors were discussed on a total of five stages. In the Future Mobility Park and the associated Innovation4Mobility expert forum, visitors had the opportunity to experience vehicles with alternative drive systems such as electric, hydrogen and hybrid up close and take a seat behind the wheel themselves. New event formats, such as an exciting rally, also provided additional highlights. 94 percent of trade visitors, 70 percent of whom came from abroad, were very satisfied with the range of products and services on display at the trade fair and with how well they achieved their goals.

Michael Johannes, Vice President Mobility & Logistics at Automechanika: “There has never been such a supporting and event program at an Automechanika in Frankfurt am Main. Our range of presentations and practical workshops in many different subject areas such as body & paint, electric vehicles, commercial vehicles, caravan repair, 3D printing, detailing and much more was extremely well received by the trade visitors. Students and school pupils took the opportunity to experience and try out automotive professions live. New this year was a separate program and area especially for Generation Z, whose attention we wanted to draw to career prospects in the fascinating world of the automotive industry – and with great success.”

Driving Transformation was the claim of this year’s Automechanika. This was clearly evident throughout the trade fair: in forward-looking presentations on key topics such as digital transformation, sustainable mobility and artificial intelligence, in practical training workshops, in the special show “Workshop of the Future” and in lively discussion panels – because never before have so many innovative technologies been presented at Automechanika as in 2024.

A particular focus of this year’s Automechanika was on sustainable technologies, products and solutions. On the stage in the new Sustainability Court in Hall 5.0, many presentations were held on the topics of remanufacturing and circular economy strategies.

For the first time, “Ambition” in Hall 3.1. was an area specially designed for Generation Z with exciting keynote speeches, panels and live acts to get young people interested in automotive careers. The background to this is the well-known shortage of skilled workers in the automotive industry, which calls for new concepts for approaching young people.
